Violet Starita, 84, a long-time resident of Southern NH, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 17th , in her son Michael Gelinas's home following an extended illness.
Violet, born on August 29th, 1932, grew up in Hooksett, NH with her parents, Marion and Maurice Lesmerises, and sister Pricilla. As a young woman, Violet worked as a nurse's aid at the VA hospital in Manchester. In 1950, she married Donald Gelinas also of Hooksett, NH and raised four children, three sons, Dennis, Michael and Stephen Gelinas and one daughter Jocelyn Fortier.
Violet later remarried Renato "Ray" Starita of Bedford, NH. She worked as a hostess at the Carousel Ballroom in Bedford, and later inherited the business from her late husband. Violet managed the Bedford Grove and its constituent businesses including the Carousel Ballroom for many years.
Violet was an avid gardener, antique collector and cook. Upon retiring and selling the Bedford Grove, she moved to her beloved "Foxglove Cottage" on High Street in Goffstown, NH where her passion for gardening truly bloomed.
Violet is survived by her first husband Donald, her four aforementioned children, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought great joy to her life.
Violet will long be remembered for her sense of humor, her passion for cooking, flea markets and gardening, her magical holidays, and her appreciation of the aesthetic.
A private service for the family will be held on May 19th followed by a celebration of life at her daughter's home in Candia NH. Violet will be cremated and laid to rest beside her mother Marion, in Candia, NH.
