Calvin E. Crooks Jr., 93, passed away on December 27th at his home in Goffstown. Born on July 24th, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio he is the son of Calvin E. Crooks Sr. and Virginia (Willerup) Crooks.
Calvin was an aviation machinist’s mate 2nd class during WWII. He and his wife Joan were owners of Mobile Electric Service; the largest rebuilder of starters, alternators and generators in New Hampshire. Started in 1965, they worked side by side until they retired in 2000.
From a very young age he had a passion for flying. He was one of the original members of the Concord Aero Guidance Society (CAGS) started in the 1960s. His interest in CAGS and radio control ultimately led to a private pilot license. Calvin was also a mason and member of the Morning Star Lodge, Worcester, MA. He had a fierce love of adventure and never missed an opportunity to learn or try something new.
Calvin was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan in 2008. He is survived by his son Gary Crooks and wife Janet from Chicago Illinois, his daughter Laurie Russell and husband Greg from E. Hampstead NH, his daughter Cheryl Crooks from Goffstown NH, five grandchildren Courtney Polk and husband Mark from Amherst Virginia, Christopher Crooks and his wife Katie from Richmond Virginia, Cameron Crooks and his wife Laura from New Boston NH, Brittany Russell from E. Hampstead and Joseph Russell from Portsmouth NH, along with 3 great grandchildren, Holly, Weston and Steven. He has three sisters, Karen Crooks from Bristol NH, Marilyn Norris from Waterford CT, and Maxine Crooks (predeceased), along with many nieces and nephews. Calvin also leaves behind his two four-legged loves Tibit and Boots.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday January 4th from 3pm to 6pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday January 5th 11am at the French and Rising Funeral Home 17 South Mast Street Goffstown, NH 03045. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
